SHARE’s first anniversary

Hi everyone,

today marks the first anniversary of SHARE, as the pool was registered on mainnet exactly one year ago, November 17th 2020. With the feeling of pure joy, that we came so far, and the celebration of the anniversary, I wanted to take the time to appreciate all the things SHARE has accomplished together with it’s delegators, supporters and friends.

In the first couple of months, the pool was carried solely by delegations of people closely associated with SHARE. To all early-believers in the project, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the support and express my deepest gratitude towards every single one of you. Many small stake pools struggle to attract an initial sufficient stake to validate blocks regularly. So, we are really fortunate to have started with an awesome group of delegators and to have found some die-hard supporters on the way too, assuring a stake floor of at least 700k ADA. This means we’ll keep on mining blocks regularly in the long-run. Therefore, our first big accomplishment is: You can count on us – SHARE is here to stay.

The second major accomplishment was Input Output Global’s (IOG) delegation of 3.2 million ADA between February and May of 2021, during their first round of community delegations. Getting IOG’s trust was a huge honor and it really kicked things off for the stake pool. It enabled us to deliver on our mission, as we started to validate blocks regularly, and it was key for Cardano community members to become aware of SHARE as well as their decision to delegate to the pool. Possibly, we couldn’t have found so many amazing delegators without them. So, a big thank you to IOG once again.

In regards of fulfilling our job as a stake pool and the first part of our mission: So far, we’ve validated 165 blocks and distributed 106.9k in ADA rewards to our delegators, which currently averages a 4.5% lifetime ROA. At today’s price (1.85 USD per ADA) this would be roughly 200k USD. I’m honored you gave SHARE the opportunity to distribute so much value to our delegators and the beneficiaries of our donations. What strikes me as well, is that I know some of our delegators are able to realize their dreams, because of their ADA investments, and that the stable passive income from staking is bringing them closer to financial independence. I’m humbled to be part of their story and I’m glad to say: We are on this volatile but joyful journey together.

I am personally most proud of the donations SHARE has been able to make with the help of our delegators – but not at their cost. So far, we have given 3,434.50€ (~4k USD) to sixteen different projects from all over the global south. These projects support a vast variety of causes, but most commonly SHARE donated to projects aiming to provide housing and/or education for less privileged children, a cause which is very dear to my heart. As you know, the second big part of our mission is to give away to charity. So, I’m extremely happy we could deliver on that and to have a positive impact on the lives of others. Just a few days ago, we published our new donations dashboard, covering all donations SHARE has made. Check it out in case you missed it (here).

To be fair, SHARE wasn’t able to deliver fully on the third part of our mission, which is sharing knowledge and information around the amazing Cardano ecosystem. Although @builtoncardano and @share_pool have been quite active on Twitter, it was planned to create more content and to be much more vocal about Cardano in general. The main reason for that is that I have a very full life besides being the stake pool operator of SHARE, including a full-time job, and I probably had the most stressful year of my life too. However, these things will change in the not too distant future.

Overall, the first year of SHARE has been a massive success and I couldn’t have asked for more! 😉 Therefore, let’s take some time to celebrate the very first anniversary of the stake pool. May there by many more to come! Thank you!

Cheers,
Bastian

How to delegate to SHARE?

Hey there,

if you are interest in delegating your ADA, but you do not know how, the following guide is for you. Let’s start with a basic question:

Why would I delegate my ADA?
You can earn rewards from delegating your ADA to a stake pool, because you are helping to secure the blockchain and by delegating to SHARE, you also support a good cause (see here).

Additional Info:
Staking explained by the Cardano Foundation (here) & Info from IOHK (here)
Rewards Calculator (here)

Dislcaimers:
(1) Delegating your ADA to a stake pool does not put your funds at risk. You are not sending your ADA to us and you can still deposit and withdraw them – at any time.
(2) You might want to check the tax law in your jurisdiction regarding staking.
(3) We will never ask you to send ADA to one of our adresses. Take care of scammers!

If you have any question, feel free to reach out to us directly on telegram or DM us on twitter and Instagram, we would love to help.

Delegation Guide (with 3 options):

In order to be able to delegate your ADA to SHARE, your funds need to be in a wallet with delegation functionality. There are a few options, but we suggest the following wallet for the ‘average’ Cardano user to start with:

YOROI Wallet – official website (here)

YOROI is designed by an official Cardano entity (Emurgo) and, therefore, is a trustworthy and secure wallet. It does not require you to download the entire blockchain (unlike Daedalus e.g.). It is the most user-friendly wallet, as well as simple and fast. YOROI comes as a browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox or as a mobile app for Android and iOS, and you can use it as an interface for your hardware wallet (Ledger / Trezor device).

The following guide provides three different options to delegate:
1) Through the YOROI – Mobile App (Android / iOS)
2) Through the YOROI – Browser Extension (Chrome/Firefox/Edge)
3) Through the YOROI – Browser Extension (Chrome/Firefox/Edge) + Hardware Wallet (Ledger/Trezor)

1. Mobile App Guide

Mobile app; make sure you fulfil the following prerequisites:
– Download the YOROI – Mobile App (here)
– Create a wallet in YOROI (Tutorial & !SAVE THE RECOVERY PHRASE SECURELY! )
– Fund the wallet with at least 10 ADA

After you have created and funded the wallet:
1) Open the YOROI app on your phone.
2) Click on “Delegate” in the bottom right corner.
3) Search for “SHARE”.
4) Press “DELEGATE”.
5) Enter your spending password & press “DELEGATE”.

Disclaimer: If this is the first time you are delegating to a stake pool, the transaction fee includes a 2 ADA fee for registering your address for staking on the blockchain. The transaction doesn’t mean you are sending your ADA somewhere.

6) Go to the tab “Dashboard” and check if your ADA is delegated to SHARE. (usually takes a few seconds to update)

If successful, your ADA is now delegated to SHARE 🤗🥳 Thank you for your trust & get ready to receive rewards in the near future!

Congratulations & thank you, if you successfully delegated to SHARE. We are open to suggestions for making this guide better. Feel free to write us directly through social media or leave a comment below.

Best wishes,
your SHARE stake pool

Introduction to SHARE | Cardano Stake Pool

Hey there,

I’m Bastian, the operator of SHARE. Let me introduce you to the stake pool, our values, and what we are trying to accomplish together.

SHARE’s mission is all about sharing. We want to provide optimal rewards to our delegators, we are giving away to charity, and we share knowledge on the Cardano blockchain and it’s ecosystem. We also want to support a decentralised, inclusive and healthy network. In order to achieve these goals, and to show our full commitment, we make two pledges to the Cardano community.

1. We transparently give a portion of the rewards to charity.
25 percent of the income from the variable fee will be given to projects in developing countries listed on betterplace.org. All donations will be transparently communicated through our twitter channel.

2. We operate ONLY ONE stake pool.
To support the decentralisation, security and health of the Cardano blockchain (info), we will only run one stake pool. Therefore, we might adjust the variable fee to incentivise delegation towards the saturation point for optimal rewards.

For now, we share knowledge through the twitter accounts @builtoncardano and @share_pool, through the Instagram account share.pool, as well as through our blog on this website. Once the stake pool is more established, we will expand our efforts to other media channels.

The most important job of any stake pool, however, is to secure the Cardano blockchain (info). In order to achieve that goal, we have a reliable operation in place and dedicate much of our time to maintain, monitor and update the servers. We rent three virtual machines from a premium cloud service provider with a guaranteed uptime of more than 99.9 percent. Furthermore, the whole operation runs on 100% renewable energy.

If you are already delegating to SHARE, we want to thank you for your trust, and if you are considering to delegate to us, we’d love to welcome you! Let’s build a thriving Cardano community together and share a portion of the rewards & benefits from the Cardano blockchain with those – who really need it.

Sincerely yours,
Bastian | from [SHARE] pool
